The eighth edition of Big Brother Africa’s reality show kicked off on Sunday, The 26th of May, 2013 in South Africa. The show started with a mind blowing performance by South Africa’s very own Mafikizolo who performed Khona. IK Osakioduwa who has been the host of the event for a while made a dramatic entrance with a power bike, dressed from head to toe in leather. Other African celebrities like Tumie Morake from South Africa and ChurchHill from Kenya had the audience laughing with their jokes and also gave the viewers a sneak peek of the house before the house mates were unveiled............
Nigeria’s record label members, The Mavins also performed on the stage as D’prince and Wande Coal wrapped up the opening show.
The 28 house mates were introduced on stage before making their way into the house and we have two beautiful people representing Nigeria. They are Ada Beverly Osuand Melvin Oduah. They would be contesting against 26 other representative for the grand price for a period of 91 days.
Ada Beverly Osu is a model and a video vixen. Beverly has promised viewers a ‘ total packaged African young diva to command the right qualities and characteristics of a blunt, sexy go-getter’. She describes herself as “smart, sexy, humble, loyal and crazy”. One of her favorite qualities is her sense of humor. Talking about others, she said she values consistency, cleanliness, truth and humility. She also said she dislikes unkeptpromises, lies and pretense. She might t have to put up with a lot then in the house, judging from the previous shows.
On the other hand, Melvin Oduah who hails from Delta state is an actor and a model. Melvin once participated in the popular Gulder Ultimate Search competition and other reality shows. Melvin said if he wins the grand prize, he’ll invest it, but he’s also hoping to make his country proud and use this experience as a platform to achieve other things in his career. Because of his involvement in other shows, his friends and family encouraged him to enter Big Brother. He has always been a fan of the show.
Other housemates include;
Hakeem from Zimbabwe. He is a model from Harare.
Koketso from South Africa. She is an entrepreneur, currently studying towards a Law degree.
Denzel from Uganda whose original name is Charles. He gave himself the name Denzel because of the ‘supposed’ resemblance to the Denzel Washington. He is a radio and TV show host.
Annabel from Kenya. A student and fashion designer.
Bolt from Sierra Leone, a business man.
Betty from Ethiopia. She is a translator and teacher from Addis Ababa.
Elikem from Ghana. He is a tailor and an actor.
Pokello from Zimbabwe. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media and Communications and owns a luxury shoe boutique.
Selly from Ghana. She is an actress and has made it known that she is in a serious relationship.
Bassey from SierraLeone. He is a student and model.
Dellish from Namibia. She is a Windhoek-born Dellish is a third year Psychology student.
Angelo from South Africa. He has made it known that he is the typical ‘Unfaithful man’. He is a dance teacher.
Fatima from Malawi. She is a TV presenter and MC.
Nando from Tanzania. He is a student who has never watched the Big Brother Africa show before but hopes to build an empire if he wins.
Huddah from Kenya, is a model with a Diploma in Programming.
Bimp from Ethiopia plans to open a club or a bar if he wins the grand price.
Motamma from Botswana is the current ‘Miss World tourism’. She is also a scientific researcher and student.
Zulu from Zambia. A single business man.
Cloe also from Zambia. She is an artist and musician from Lusaka.
Maria from Namibia. She is a radio presenter and model.
Natasha from Malawi is a self-employed mother.
Biguesas from Angola. He aspires to be a TV presenter.
Feza from Tanzania. She is a recording artist from Arusha and has a certificate in IT.
Neyll from Angola is a single father who feels he knows how to play the ‘game’ well.
LK4 from Uganda is a professional basketball player. He towers over others with his 6’5 height.
O’neal from Bostwana is also a radio personality and TV host.
The house is divided into two, the diamond and ruby houses. As usual, the Big Brother house is exceptional with a lot of colors and and home pieces from top notch designers. Below are some photos of the interior designs.
The Chase will be screened live on DStv channels 197 and 198. Highlights of the 91 days would air on other stations including the weekly eviction show.
